Inspiration for Cinderella Castle at Disneyland

4. Modern technology: To transport building materials like marble and sandstone up the rock face, state-of-the-art technology was used: a steam engine and a crane. The steam engine had only just been invented. In addition, there was already running water, a hot-air heating system, and even a battery-powered doorbell system.
5. Theatrical setting: Ludwig had the castle built according to the designs of the theater and stage painter Christian Jank (1833-1888).

Buy tickets for Neuschwanstein Castle

Tickets, including a guided tour, can be ordered in advance from the official online ticket shop. This is highly recommended, as visitor numbers are limited and tickets can sell out well in advance. Those who wish to decide spontaneously can purchase remaining tickets at the Hohenschwangau Ticket Center. However, these are only available for the same day. As it can also be very busy there, those interested should arrive at the ticket office early, ideally before the opening time of 8:00 a.m., recommends the Bavarian Palace Administration. Reservations for castle tours are not possible.

Admission prices for Schwanstein Castle

Admission costs €23.50 (regular) and €22.50 (concessions). The concessionary price applies to seniors aged 65 and over, students, people with disabilities, holders of a guest card from the Ostallgäu district, and/or a Königscard. Children, pupils, and young people up to and including 17 years of age pay €2.50. A processing fee of €2.50 is charged upon purchase. (As of March 2025).

Guided tours in Neuschwanstein Castle

The castle can only be visited as part of a guided tour lasting approximately half an hour. Tickets are valid for a specific tour at a particular time. Because the tours start promptly, it is essential to arrive well in advance. It is best to allow ample time for your journey to the castle. Luggage, strollers, other bulky items, and pets are not permitted on the tours.
