Neuschwanstein Castle

It's not without a certain irony – Neuschwanstein Castle was originally intended to serve its builder, King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845-1886), as a luxurious retreat. However, shortly after his mysterious death in Lake Starnberg, the castle was opened to the public – and became a major tourist attraction in the beautiful Allgäu region. Every year, families, couples, and tour groups from all over the world flock to the fairytale castle of the reclusive ruler. And rightly so. A guided tour of the castle allows everyone to feel like royalty.
